Description

Hot Sand is a glass blowing studio and gallery in Asbury Park which is approximately 25 minutes from Lakewood. There are three activities available to walk-ins: Glassblowing, the SunTile, and the QuickCast.

In the glassblowing activity, you sit down with an instructor who guides you through the entire process. There's a solid variety of different glass objects you can choose to create. This is where things get more expensive, but there are certainly more feasible options available.

The SunTile activity is where you can create your own design or image from cut pieces of glass on top of another clear square of glass. Then it is fused together into one solid tile. This doesn't involve any real instruction and is recommended.

A QuickCast is simply creating a cast of either a hand or any item out of molten glass. You create the imprint of the body part or item in question in a box of sand and molten glass is then poured over it. Requires less creativity and time.

With most items you can choose different sizes. Small $22, Medium $33, Large $44.

All activities have "extras" which add costs and include adding more colors, engravings, and the like. All items can be picked up 7 days later or shipped for about $12.

The staff is extremely kind and helpful.

Additionally, there is a gallery of glass artwork right when you walk in the shop. Most of these items appear to have been created by local artists and some are even for sale.

Tips

  • Parking is on the street. A dollar per hour.
  • When doing the SunTile seating may be limited. There was only one folding table there at the time.
  • Give yourself at least two hours

Hours Subject to change. Always verify.

Sun 10:00 am - 6:00 pm is the time for walk-ins

Any other time would most likely need to be scheduled before hand
