Description

It's the observatory at the top of the new world trade center. Pretty nice. Also, if you go soon (written early June 15), you can probably be pretty sure she hasn't been there yet. Check out the website.

Tips

  • You might want to make sure beforehand that it won't be foggy when you're planning to go.
  • You can buy tickets online or at the counter. If you buy online, you have to specify a time (in 15 minute increments) and be there exactly on time or forfeit (unless you pay more for a flexible ticket). If you aren't absolutely sure, it's probably best to just buy at the counter, but you can check online to make sure it's not already sold out for the times you're planning to go.
  • You may want to check with your Rav about Yichud on the express elevators. According to the New York Times, the elevator ride is 47 seconds long.
  • When you get to the top, they'll ask if you want to rent an iPad that shows you what landmarks you are looking at. It's $15, and not a bad buy if you won't really know otherwise. Remember you already spent $60 just getting up there (though that could really be an argument in either direction).
  • Be aware that you may not bring your own food in. They have airport style security, so don't count on sneaking things past. You can buy drinks up there. Not much kosher food though. All I can recall seeing was a few yogurts.
  • Finding a place to sit down shouldn't be too much of a problem. If you want to sit in the fancier area, you might be better off waiting to buy your drinks there.
  • Sunset is a nice time, but pretty crowded. You can go up then, but if you're having trouble finding a spot to look out the windows, try sitting down upstairs and coming back down a little later. It'll likely thin out quite a bit.

Directions

Really you can't miss it. It's the tallest building in the hemisphere. Probably best to take a cab, as they say on their website.

Once there, you'll need to find the right entrance. If your back is to the memorial, facing the tower, you'll want to go to your left (clockwise around the building). Or ask anyone.
