Maps suggestions

Mikomos is working on integrating maps to make it easier to find mikomos. Any suggestions for what the maps should look like and where they should be placed are more than welcome. --Tosfos 22:21, June 30, 2008 (EDT)

It seems that currently, it is only possible to view the map with mikomos of one state at a time. But there are mikomos that are near the border of two states, like NY and NJ, and I think there should be a way to view all the mikomos in a certain area. Maybe have a map that includes all mikomos, and you can zoom in to the area you want. —Preceding comment added by 24.199.84.214 (talkcontribs)

There is a way, actually. When you click on a certain state, it shows up as USA>NY, so if you click USA, you get a map of the entire USA. —Preceding comment added by 24.199.84.214 (talkcontribs)

Awesome!

This is so much better!

Adding a state

There is no drop-down menu like there use to be. Was this on purpose? --Cdo 13:29, March 28, 2008 (EDT)

Sort of. There's a bug in an extension we're using now. I'll have to get a workaround up there soon. Sorry. --Tosfos 00:13, March 30, 2008 (EDT)
Should be fixed now. --Tosfos 01:39, March 30, 2008 (EDT)

Adding a state (revisited)

Hi i've been trying to add a few makomos in Cleveland, OH. I've added the state page and its seems to be working fine, but how can i add it to the sidebar? Is that something only an Admin can do? Thanks for a great resource, and to everyone who pitches in. You've made a difficult 'parsha' that much easier! --Pythonomicon 13:07, August 17, 2012 (EDT)

Auto show

It's over. Time to take it down.  :(. Up with the Yankees and Mets? Or Baseball in general?--Cdo 13:14, April 1, 2008 (EDT)

If I (or anyone) ever get around to fixing up those pages. I would probably do baseball in general and include links to the particular teams. --Tosfos 21:35, April 2, 2008 (EDT)

Adding Mikomos

I still encounter a problem that when I add a Makom, firstly the count doesn't change until I refresh it, and secondly, the Makom doesn't even show under the state. --Cdo 13:22, April 1, 2008 (EDT)

It's not unusual that the count doesn't change for you. You have an old version of the page cached. As long as it refreshes, life's good. If the makom doesn't show under the state, life's bad. Does this happen even after refreshing that page? If so, send over an example. Thanks. --Tosfos 21:34, April 2, 2008 (EDT)
I just added 5 Chicago places that did not show under IL. How should I send it over to you?--Cdo 14:56, April 3, 2008 (EDT)
Click the refresh tab on the top right. They're showing up for me. --Tosfos 00:45, April 4, 2008 (EDT)

Oooopps

The last time I checked, the Brooklyn Cyclones didn't have both a major and minor league team, and the NY Rangers played hockey. --Cdo 20:56, April 10, 2008 (EDT)

picky picky. --Tosfos 23:25, April 10, 2008 (EDT)

Makom name

webmaster how do i change a makom's name after creation? thought of better title...

Leave a comment on the makom's discussion page including the suggested new name and an admin will rename it. --Tosfos 22:57, August 6, 2008 (EDT)

Scam alert

This guy has been going around midtown Manhattan over the past several months on SUNDAY nights. His basic story seems to be that he's just come in from London and needs to get to Philadelphia. However, he lost his jacket (perhaps in a cab), and has no money, id, etc. He first just asks for phone numbers for people who can help him out (sometimes claiming he's already spoken to some organizations such as Chabad), and thens asks if you can help him, not necessarily with money (pehaps just phone numbers). Eventually you feel convinced he's truly in need of help and offer money(or he may ask if you don't offer). He's about 5'6", with a medium build, has dark curly hair, and wears a yarmulke. —Preceding comment added by 68.196.191.89 (talkcontribs) 13:17, October 13, 2008

Here's some additional info: I've come in2 contact w/ this guy 3 times. Please note that he operates on all nights and usually, but not exclusivly,in the time square vicinity. Also, he's been scamming people 4 at least 3 yrs. Many times he mentions Cherry Hill and asks 4 $$$ for a bus.Recently he asks 4 info on where he can sleep. He can't b trusted and should not b directed 2 any private homes. He likes 2 target dates and SOMETIMES speaks w/ a british accent. Please note that his story may vary and he's real smooth so b careful. —Preceding comment added by Maven (talkcontribs) 03:19, November 10, 2008 (EST)

wow! I cant believe it! This is exactly what happened to me when I was on a date right outside of My Most Favorite Food. We really believed his story and had pity on him, my date even gave him money for a bus. —Preceding comment added by 67.85.86.195 (talkcontribs) 22:44, December 4, 2008

i also ran into this guy outside My Most Favorite Food. my date was going to offer him $ but she had none (good thing too because if she gave i would also have to give and that date was expensive enough as it was) I figured he was a scammer but his accent is very good maybe next time i will give him a dollar for the great accent —Preceding comment added by 96.250.146.145 (talkcontribs) February 12, 2009

Anonymous User from IP address 70.192.82.213 notes that by the Marriot Marquis Hotel "There was a Jewish homeless looking man that approached us as we left asking for $48 to purchase a train ticket as all his possessions were lost in a cab. He had a British accent, a limp, and was well spoken. He knew all the details regarding his travels - the ticket price, local Chabad houses, train times ect. I gave him the money, not sure if it was a scam or not." Scam! ----Syjew 17:23, March 10, 2013 (EDT)

Here is a picture I took of him with my phone! [1]

More feedback

I'm gonna start leaving feedback here; its more convenient. An issue with the new template that i found is that ALL mikomos that don't have "http://" in the webpage link, don't show up properly as clickable links. Heres a couple i just fixed http://www.mikomos.com/wiki/Estihana_in_Brooklyn http://www.mikomos.com/wiki/M_Restaurant http://www.mikomos.com/wiki/Taam_Mevorach http://www.mikomos.com/wiki/Aquarium_at_Jenkinsons_Boardwalk but theres much much more I think.

This should no longer be an issue. --Tosfos 21:27, August 7, 2011 (EDT)
I tested it on older entries and it seems to have worked. Thanks! --Syjew 22:05, August 7, 2011 (EDT)

I have just noticed that the advanced editors editing box is missing. Also, I would prefer if the "Page Discussion Edit + History Move Unwatch Refresh" links were moved back to the left. Thanks. I'm probably not done with my feedback yet! --Syjew 22:14, August 7, 2011 (EDT)

Good catch. That's probably a bug in the software we're running. I'll have to look into it. Regarding the links, I'm not sure. See if it grows on you. --Tosfos 22:31, August 7, 2011 (EDT)
Ummm...while fixing the advanced editing issue, you just broke the Makom form. Try editing any makom to reproduce --Syjew 22:37, August 7, 2011 (EDT)
Indeed. Fixed. --Tosfos 22:53, August 7, 2011 (EDT)
And that text area is fixed, too. Wasn't a bug, just new syntax. --Tosfos 22:55, August 7, 2011 (EDT)
Ok, great! Now I'm not gonna bother you about that flickr cc search link....Oh, and can I get upload access to add photos? --Syjew 23:01, August 7, 2011 (EDT)

Events

Keep them or get rid of them already? They haven't been updated in 4 years and even then it probably was never popular. I think all recurring events (like sports teams) should be turned into mikomos with a link to the current season schedule. Also, while we're at at, we should delete the link "add a new event" ASAP to keep the simplicity of this website. Syjew 07:22, February 26, 2012 (EST)

You're probably right about all this. One of these days... --Tosfos 02:20, November 30, 2012 (EST)

Mikomos Content Licensing

Under what license are contributions to Mikomos released under?

The Mikomos text has not been released. --Tosfos 02:18, November 30, 2012 (EST)

Closed Places

Why are closed places kept around? Why aren't they simply deleted (especially after a certain time elapsed)? Is there any official policy on this?

They are kept around a little while so people know that they're closed. There is no official amount of time before they are deleted, but its around a year. If you have any suggestions of places to be deleted, you can write them here. Syjew 01:39, December 24, 2012 (EST)
