Description

Quiet, short, walking loop right near Pikesville. Super convenient if you've got limited time, need something quick or close by. Highly recommended for those who would like to be nature types, but can't quite get past all the bugs and dirt and, you know, nature-y stuff. Much of it goes beside Jones Falls stream, which almost masks the sound of the nearby highway.

Tips

  • Wide path (easy to walk side by side) is mostly dirt-- partly gravel, old asphalt, and part of it is a wooden board walk. Don't wear high heals, but flats are fine and guys should be fine with anything--as long as it hasn't rained recently.
  • Great spots for photos.
  • Feeling adventurous? Make mini sand castles, skip stones, take a picnic to the stream bank, dip your toes in the water or try to walk across the log spanning the stream. Or maybe not.
  • It's one single walking loop which takes approx. 30 minutes at a leisurely pace. It's not desolate, so no worries about yichud during the day--you will see other walkers. But there is no lighting and it's not recommended at night.
  • No real facilities. There's a port-a-potty in the parking lot which I give you a bracha you should never need.
  • From the parking lot: go to the left to start walking by the water, go to the right to start in the forest and boardwalk.
  • Not well known to the frum folk in Baltimore, so you're unlikely to bump into anyone you know, even considering how close it is.

Hours Subject to change. Always verify.

Probably officially open dawn 'til dusk, and that's when you should be there anyway.

Directions

From Jewish Pikesville:

Drive West/South on Smith which turns into Slade which turns into Milford Mill Rd. After you cross Reisterstown road go another 4 mins/1.8mi--turn left into the tiny parking lot just before you go under the highway underpass.
