At 3:00 PM, spectators will enter the magical behind-the-scenes world of Macy's "Balloon Inflation Station" at the northeast corner of 77th St. and Columbus Avenue and exit at the southeast corner of 81st Street. There will be no other points of entry. Entry to "Balloon Inflation" will close to the public at 10:00 PM.

See the Macy's Day Parade balloons being inflated. See 20-40 foot floats of cartoon characters. Unbelievable, fun. Don't forget the camera.

The balloons for the parade are inflated the day before (Wednesday) on both sides of the American Museum of Natural History. The balloons are split between 77th and 81st Streets between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue. The inflation team consists of various volunteers from Macy's as well as students from Stevens Institute of Technology, a local university in Hoboken, NJ where the balloons and floats are designed and built. Tips

  • Do not try to drive near the area. In 2006, one Mikomos user parked at a random place in Manhattan and took a taxi there. A taxi will not be able to drive you all the way to 77th and Columbus due to the big crowds, so you'll walk a few blocks.
  • Dress warm; you will be outdoors for a while.
  • Starbucks afterward is an idea, but you won't be the only ones wanting a warm drink (basically, be ready for a crowded starbucks).
  • Some claim the entrance is on W 79th St. and Columbus.
